Gapan City Mayor Says No To Manila's Trash
(Source: Philippine Star)

Mayor Ernesto Natividad says that he opposes the plan to make a 573-hectare property in Barangay Macabaklay a dumpsite for Manila’s garbage. Macabaklay is in the southern part of the province near the Sierra Madre mountain range.

The mayor said "We don’t want to be the dumping ground for Manila’s garbage.”  Metro Manila generates 6,000 tons of garbage a day. The mayor added that the people of Gapan are strongly opposed to the garbage dumping.  Nueva Ecija Governor Tommy Joson stated that the proposal would have to be approved by Gapan's officials and residents.
